ACL bigotry

In their latest foray into the same sex marriage debate, the Australian Christian Lobby has stated that same sex marriage will increase gender confusion because it undermines the ‘complementarity’ of males and females. Whatever that means in their bizarre minds, is anybody’s guess.

This is simply another shot fired in the quest to maintain their bigotry. The ACL believes it should have the ability to discriminate against same sex couples and with that aim it will do anything in its power to maintain that ability.

It states that in countries where marriage has been redefined, precious freedoms have been lost. What are those freedoms? They are:

  1. Children have lost the freedom to know the love of their biological parents.

Presumably this means that children adopted by same sex couples will be denied the right to know their biological parents. This, of course, is bullshit. In some cases, one of the people in the same sex relationship IS one of the biological parents. In other cases, this is no different to any adoption, where the child may have no contact with their biological parents. This happened to a relative of mine and all parties involved were heterosexual. So, the ACL statement is at best misleading.

  1. Florists, bakers and photographers have been fined and forced into costly litigation simply for living out their belief that a marriage is between one man and one woman.

Same sex marriage is not compulsory. If you do not believe in it, then you do not have to engage in it. It is not your right to discriminate against other people who are obeying the law of the land, just because you do not like what they are. The rule of law trumps any weird religious belief someone has. Should you be able to discriminate against black people because you do not like them? Should you be able to discriminate against those of another religion, because yours is the one true god, and theirs is just imaginary? Should you be able to discriminate against those having what used to be termed an ‘interracial marriage’ because you do not think such marriages should occur? If you believe the answer to any of these is yes, then you are a bigot.

  1. Parents are forced to send their children to radical sex education classes.

What this means I can only guess at, but I presume it means that it is not just a case of ‘that goes in there’ sort of mechanical explanation, through which I had to suffer as a primary school child. Sex is something that christians are obsessive about, to the extent that their interest seems prurient, especially in the light of what abuse has transpired in the Catholic, Anglican, and presumably other churches. In addition, the ACL also foamed at the mouth over the safe schools program, which was about recognising that some children have what are called ‘gender issues’. Such virulent opposition to a program that explained those issues, in the hope of preventing bullying or discrimination, is difficult to understand except in the light of the ACL’s prurient fascination with sex. The fact that some children have been bullied, to the point of suicide, because of their sexuality, is an indictment on our society, and particularly of organisations like the ACL.

The ACL also go on to state that same sex couples already have equal rights. This is an out-and-out lie. I had the right to marry, but same sex couples do not. If that is equality according to the ACL, then they are seriously deluded. This is perhaps not surprising, when you understand that many of the rights they deem important, and wish to maintain, include the right to discriminate on the basis of sexuality.

As Arthur C. Clarke stated, one of the greatest tragedies in human history was that morality was hijacked by religion. That also goes for marriage. However, that is changing now, as indicated by the fact that 77% of couples live together before marriage, and 75% of marriages are performed by civil celebrants. The decline of religion is something that will hopefully continue, but there are several more hurdles to jump. The eventual aims will include the compelling of religious organisations to pay tax just like the rest of us, so we do not have to subsidise them, and the cessation of indoctrination of children, which is simply a form of child abuse.

How will SSM increase gender confusion, I’d like to know? People KNOW if they’re straight, gay, bi or trans gender. The only confusion for LGBTI people is the bigotry they encounter, making them afraid to be themselves. The sooner people are educated about gender the better.

      Jane,
That is something only the ACL think they can tell you. I expect it all comes down to their belief that gender and sexuality are choices that those who are less than pure select. That is exemplified by the phrase ‘the homosexual lifestyle’. The religious never cease to amaze me in their ability to avoid reality.
